Mariam Tsiklauri: Traditional, Modernist, Poetic

Mariam Tsiklauri was born in Tbilisi in 1960. She edited several Georgian literary series and is a sensual author who touches upon various matters and themes with her poems; she’s also very prominent in children’s poetry. Her children’s poems, translations, essays and articles are regularly published in various journals and magazines, and her work has been translated into English, German, Italian, Lithuanian, Armenian and Russian. Tsiklauri has also received several prestigious literary prizes, such as the Gala prize, the Saguramo prize and the Makvala Mrevlishvili Award. ‘The poetry of Mariam Tsiklauri – with its diverse lyrical and epic ramifications – is a vivid example of the cohesion of the traditional and the modernist, an artistic vision grown from national roots, bringing out the natural and impressive layers of the human soul.’
