Davit Gabunia was born in the seaside town of Poti in 1982. He graduated from Ilia State University and holds a degree in English Language and Literature. His reviews and translations from English and Swedish have been published in literary magazines since 2003. He has translated the works of Strindberg, Ibsen or Shakespeare, as well as the work of several contemporary playwrights.
Gabunia is an associate writer of the Royal District Theatre. In 2008, he received the prize for best play at the theatre festival Ardifest. He published his first collection of plays in 2010, and in 2013, received the Duruji independent theatre award. His plays were staged at the Rustaveli Theatre, the Royal District Theatre, and theatres in Poti and Batumi. In 2017, the writer published his first novel, which was recently presented at the Tbilisi Book Fair and is predicted to be the next sensation of contemporary Georgian literature.
