Alexey Sevruk: A World Whittled Away by Paradox

Alexey Sevruk was born in Kyiv in 1983, but has lived in the Czech Republic since age twelve. He holds a degree in Slavic and East European studies from Charles University in Prague, and works as a translator and the Editor-in-Chief of Plav, a monthly journal focusing on world literature. In 2016, he debuted with the short-story collection Divadlo tančících loutek [The Theatre of Dancing Puppets]. ‘In any case, the collection offers a valuable sketch of a melancholic world whittled away by a number of paradoxes,’ writes Jan M. Heller. ‘And in one way or another, this world tends to correspond to our own place in space and time.’
